🔹 What is ORS?

ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts) is a simple, cost-effective solution used to treat dehydration, especially caused by diarrhea. It contains a balanced mixture of glucose, sodium, and other electrolytes.

🔹 Why is ORS Important?

  • Diarrhea leads to severe dehydration, especially in children.

  • ORS can prevent 93% of diarrhea-related deaths if given early.

  • Recognized by WHO and UNICEF as a life-saving intervention.

🔹 When to Use ORS:

  • Loose motions / diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • Signs of dehydration: dry mouth, sunken eyes, low energy, reduced urination

🔹 How to Prepare ORS (Standard Sachet):

  1. Mix 1 full sachet in 1 liter of clean water

  2. Stir well until dissolved

  3. Give frequently in small sips throughout the day

  4. Do not store for more than 24 hours

🔹 Quick Facts:

  • ORS is included in WHO’s Essential Medicines List

  • Over 500,000 child deaths could be prevented yearly with proper ORS use

  • Safe for all ages, including infants
